What this policy covers
This policy explains how Yap handles information when you use the Yap mobile application and related services. Yap is a messaging and calling service designed for private, direct communication and small group conversations.
Information you provide
- Account information such as display name, username, email address, and password.
- Profile and group information, including avatars, group names, and membership changes.
- Messages and attachments that you choose to send, including photos, files, and voice messages.
- Call information such as participants, call type, timestamps, and call status.
- Support messages when you contact us for help.
Information collected from your device
- Push notification tokens, when you enable notifications, so Yap can deliver message and call alerts.
- Camera and microphone data only while you use a feature that needs them, such as calls or voice messages.
- Technical request and security information needed to operate sessions and protect the service.
Yap does not sell personal information and does not use your messages for advertising.
How we use information
- Provide messaging, media sharing, contacts, profiles, and audio/video calling.
- Authenticate accounts, verify email addresses, reset passwords, and secure sessions.
- Deliver push notifications and keep conversations synchronized across your devices.
- Prevent abuse, troubleshoot failures, and maintain service reliability.
Storage and service providers
Account records, conversation records, message metadata, and selected attachments are stored on the Yap service. Audio and video calls use LiveKit infrastructure to establish the call. Yap does not record calls or screen shares by default. Service providers process information only as needed to provide hosting, storage, email delivery, notifications, search, or calling infrastructure.
Security and retention
Yap uses encrypted connections, password hashing, short-lived sessions, and protected device storage for session credentials. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. We retain information while your account and conversations are active, or as needed for security, legal, and operational purposes.
Your choices
You can edit profile information, control notification permissions, and contact support about account or data requests. If you want to request account or data deletion, contact us from the email associated with your Yap account so we can verify the request.
